Product Description

Fynspray 3/4" Water Pump with two grease caps for lubricating shaft.
These water pumps have been around for over 60 years and proved extremely reliable.
Some of the smaller 1/2” pumps may only have one grease point at the front of the pump body.
This type of pump has also sold under the Jabsco brand with the similar Fynspray WS37 water pump impeller.
The pumps remained similar in design over the years with its stainless steel impeller running in the bronze pump housing which is lubricated from two grease nipples or grease cups.
The pump only requires very little greasing which only a very small amount of grease every 2 or 3 days of continues use.
Care should be to not over grease as the surplus may work its way into the rubber impeller causing it to become too soft causing the need for an early replacement.
It is suggested that you replace the impeller every one or two years if damage doesn’t occur sooner.
To offset impeller damage through intrusion of debris found in the water it is advised to install a suitable water filter prior to the water pump.
This is cheap insurance to premature pump failure causing expensive engine repairs.
The pump have capabilities of over 30lb of water pressure ensuring the 3 to 10lbs of pressure that the engine requires depending if the engine is fitted with a thermostat control system which Precision Marine recommends to have in place thus increasing the life of the engine.
Most cases the pump uses a V belt to drive it at a ratio of 2 or 3 to one having an engine pulley size 2” and the pump pulley from 4" to 6” diameter.
Advised to not over tension the V belt as it could cause premature wear of the shaft and the pump housing.
Upon engine start up to is suggested you lift the hatch cover to ensure the pump pulley is spinning and insuring no water leakage out the shaft seal. If this occurs in many cases it only entails slight adjustment of the two gland packing nuts, however if the pump was manufactured after about 2021 it may have a rubber lip seal which would require replacement to rectify.
Also at start up there may be a small amount of air in the pump line and a small increase in revs for a few seconds can help remove it more quickly ensuring a quicker water priming.
While the engine hatch is up be aware of any unwanted fuel leakage into the bilge creating disastrous possibilities.
The water pump should never feel hot to touch if working correctly along with the exhaust manifolds which you can comfortably run your hands along the outside and not burn.
If attention is needed to the cooling system this will be more noticeably at idle speed first as the pump is not assisted by water pressure in the water pickups as when under way.
As a foot-note that when replacing the impeller of the Fynspray and Jabsco pumps it will require removal first of the V pulley, the rear cover and then push the shaft out the back which allows removal of the impeller.
Lube the new impeller with petroleum jelly or similar and fit the impeller onto the shaft and insert from the rear owing to a part though keyway which ensures the shaft position in the pump body.
Some of the more safety aspects of our suggestion here will relate to all types of water pumps.
